Thank you to our customers for helping bees, Monarchs and other pollinators by distributing thousands of pollinator-friendly seed packets at your Earth Day events

Monarch butterflies and honey bees, are in danger. According to the National Wildlife Federation, over the last two decades, the North American monarch population has declined by more than 90 percent. There are many reasons why Monarchs are disappearing, including deforestation in Mexico where butterflies migrate to survive through the winter, climate change and pesticides and urban development wiping out milkweed. Monarchs lay their eggs on milkweed and these are the only plants their caterpillars can eat. Milkweed plants are vital to monarch’s survival.

While many people find bees to be pesky, they are a vital part of our eco-system. Climate change is linked to flowers blooming earlier before bees emerge from hibernation, disrupting the natural pollination process. Many of the foods we eat rely on or benefit from bee pollination. Bees and other pollinators need our help to combat the effects of climate change on pollination.

Eco Promotional Products best-selling 2019 Earth Day item was pollinator-friendly seed packets. New for 2019, our Save the Monarchs milkweed seed packets and bookmarks were huge hits. Save the Bees-themed and customer designed custom seed packets were also top sellers this Earth Day. Wildflowers will not only help beautify landscapes, they are also a key food source for bees. Planting wildflowers will allow bees to better pollinate fruits and vegetables and increase crop production. Bees love sunflowers, black-eyed Susans and many others.

If you would like to continue your efforts to help pollinators, it’s easy to make a difference at a local level by planting native plants at home or throughout a community.  Through the National Wildlife Federation’s Mayor’s Monarch Pledge, mayors and other local and tribal government executives are pledging to create friendly habitats for monarchs and other pollinators. When taking the pledge, community heads are asked to identify at least three action items to be implemented within their area, such as avoiding pesticides, education outreach, adding monarch-friendly plants to community planting and creating butterfly gardens.
