Earth Day 2016 Wrap Up
Earth Day 2016 was another successful day for many reasons! First, it marks the 1 year anniversary of the launch of our new website! Our improved website makes it so much easier for people to choose their eco-friendly promotional products by listing environmental and social icons for each product. The icons identify the eco-friend attributes of each product: Reusable, Recyclable, Recycled, Organic, Compostable, Biodegradable, USA Made, Socially Compliant, and Renewable Energy. We vet all our products to have at least one or more of these attributes!
Eco Promotional Products was invited to participate in an Earth Day Fair at Antioch High School in Illinois. Third graders were bused in and Freshmen through Seniors came to visit throughout the day. EPP truly believes in helping educate kids on how they can make a difference. One of the activities they did was think about what they could do to make our planet a better place. Here are some of the answers:
- Don’t use plastic bottles
- Bike
- Garden
- Quicker showers
- Turn off the lights
- Unplug things if I’m not using them
- Compost
- Never let the water run
- Don’t leave trash on the ground
- Clean up beaches
- Plant trees
- Don’t cut down trees
- Don’t litter
- Reuse things like papers
- Collect cans, then recycle
- Use bamboo instead of wood
- Take a shower instead of a bath
- Do not throw things into the water
- Recycle things you don’t want anymore
- Use energy efficient lighting
- Use reusable water bottles
- Use natural light instead of bulbs
- Plant seeds
Down in Texas EPP was involved in another Earth Day Event at Kiker Elementary School. Together along with over 55 volunteers, including girls scouts we planted 7 new trees, picked up garbage throughout the entire campus, weeded, planted new flowers, and mulched the Kiker gardens and trees to get them ready for summer.
On Earth Day, at a special ceremony held at UN headquarters in New York a record-breaking 175 countries and the European Union formally signed the Paris Agreement for climate change. The Paris Agreement sets several long-term climate goals including; holding average temperatures below a two degree Celsius rise from pre-industrial levels, pursuing efforts to limit this to a 1.5 degree threshold, peaking global emissions as soon as possible, and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. Signing the agreement is just the first step, but symbolizes positive change to come.
